Angrboda (also known as Angrboða) was a Giantess and was the first wife of Loki. Angrboda was a Jötunn who gave birth to Fenrir, Jörmungandr and the grave-goddess Hel.
Biography[]
Angrboda lives in Járnvid (meaning Ironwood), the forest where female jötnar live, in Jötunheimr, the world of the giants, known as jötunn. She is also known as the Mother of Monsters. Her name in Old Norse is translated as "the one who brings grief," "she-who-offers-sorrow," and "harm-bidder." Angrboda is mentioned in the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda.
