Mannel was Queen Judith's cousin and Princess Elsewith's father.

Season 5[]
Mannel arrives at King Æthelwulf's camp, bringing his soldiers from Northumbria. He swears his loyalty to King Æthelwulf. A rider arrives and tells Æthelwulf that the Vikings have gone. The Saxon Army goes to York to investigate. All they find are some horses and rats in the chapel. Bishop Heahmund asks why the rats are above ground.
Suddenly, the Vikings appear through the sewers where they had been hiding, and the Second Battle of Yorktown begins. In the midst of the fighting, Mannel sees Prince Alfred, his nephew, is in trouble against a massive Viking Berserker wielding a Warhammer. He comes to Alfred's rescue by running his sword through the Berserker. The Viking turns to fight Mannel, with Mannel's sword still driven into his stomach and out his back! Alfred impales him with his own sword, which seemingly takes him out. But the Berserker gets on his feet, follows them, and uses the last of his strength to bash Mannel's head in. Said swords still attached.
