Northumbria (Old English: Norþanhymbra Rīċe) is one of the kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon England. It is located in what is now Northern England and south-east Scotland. Its two main regions are Deira and Bernnicia. The name comes from the Old English Norþan-hymbre, meaning "the people or province north of the Humber."

In Vikings[]

Like the Kingdom of Mercia, Northumbria is weakening, especially compared to the Kingdom of Wessex. Northumbria is the setting of the first western raid carried out by the famous Viking Ragnar Lothbrok. The Raid of Lindisfarne is considered the beginning of The Viking Age.

The kingdom is ruled by King Aelle, with his son Prince Ecgberht as his heir. After the attack by the Vikings, King Aelle seeks out and alliance with King Ecbert of Wessex.

Following the defeat and subsequent execution of King Aelle by the sons of Ragnar in retaliation for killing Ragnar, the status of Northumbria is unclear.
