Rangvald is the first to discover and report of the Rus raids in Norway.

- Rangvald loosely corresponds with Jarl Ragnvald, a Norwegian warlord and governor under Harald Finehair who is famous for being given the honor of cutting his hair after Harald's conquest of Norway and coining the name "Finehair" (Hárfagri).
- Adam Winnick played an uncredited Viking warrior and an uncredited Black Dane Viking in previous episodes. He is also Katheryn Winnick's brother.
