White Hair's Second Raid is a raid led by White Hair's skogarmoars as an unintended consequence of the Second Kattegat Civil War. It depicts the confrontation between White Hair and his bandits and the farmers of Lagertha's village supported by the shield-maidens of Kattegat. The event takes place in Season 6 Episode 6, Death and the Serpent.

Prelide[]

The bandits, led by White Hair, had suffered a grievous setback during their first encounter with the farmers, losing a third of their numbers. Young Hali was killed in this skirmish by White Hair himself. However, Ivar's former commander, possibly having recruited more bandits, launched a renewed assault on the small village. This time however, the farmers were better prepared, as they were reinforced by a small force of shield-maidens led by Gunnhild, and had constructed a maze of palisades designed to trap their enemy.

The Raid[]

As the outlaws approached the village, they were met by an old farmer, named Gundmund, who challenged them to single combat. He was pierced by multiple arrows. Six young archers, led by Tarben, emerged from a cliff atop the village, but learning from their previous defeat, White Hair had sent a small party of men who slaughtered the unsuspecting archers. Advancing on the maze of palsied, the outlaw force heard cries from the shield-maidens designed to lure them in. One shield-maiden was struck by an arrow as the outlaws began pouring into the maze in three distinct ways. The farmers launched their plan, sucessfully making palisades collapse on their enmies, thus trapping them and piercing them with swords. Vicious hand-to-hand combat emerged between shield-maidens and outlaws, the former taking the upper hand. The farmers also threw oil on a group of outlaws before setting them on fire, while Lagertha took out three men. The outlaws were routed but Skadi was decapitated by White Hair. The latter then faced Lagertha in single combat and nearly defeated her but was struck at the last moment by a knife.

Aftermath[]

The engagement proved too much for the remaining battered outlaws. The farmers had won a decisive victory, successfully protecting their village and their stock, and avenging Hali and their dead. The loss of their leader and of much of their force meant the remaining bandits wouldn't annoy the village anymore. Lagertha was hailed as the best shield-maiden in the Norse world by Gunnhild and her warriors. However, she suffered nasty injuries following her fight against White Hair. She travelled to Kattegat to inform Bjorn of his son's death, but being weakened by her injuries, and encountering Hvitserk, who murdered her while hallucinating she was Ivar.
